  • National Gardening Day

Happy National Gardening Day!!! We have been busy lately in the garden! Here are a few highlight photos from the last few months. The students had started their seeds in seed trays, which have grown in our greenhouse. The seedlings are now ready to plant and the students have planted basil, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, cabbage, celery, eggplant, peppers, sage, and tomatoes. Students have prepared garden beds, cleaned out old plants, and planted new seeds (beans, carrots, corn, radishes, peas, lettuce and flowers) and red potatoes. Next up, cucumbers, squash, melons, sweet potatoes, and sunflowers.

  • Investing in Pre-K

Pre-K can play a critical role in closing the achievement gap while raising achievement for all learners. Research supporting the positive impact of pre-K has fueled the proliferation of state-funded pre-K programs across the country. Mississippi First is proud to have written the Early Learning Collaborative Act, which established state-funded pre-K in Mississippi. Now, we lead the effort to expand the program. Individuals or corporations who make a contribution to support the local matching fund of an approved early learning collaborative may be eligible to receive a 1:1 state tax credit for the donated amount up to $1 million.
