  • National Gardening Day

    Happy National Gardening Day!!! We have been busy lately in the garden! Here are a few highlight photos from the last few months. The students had started their seeds in seed trays, which have grown in our greenhouse. The seedlings are now ready to plant and the students have planted basil, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, cabbage, celery, eggplant, peppers, sage, and tomatoes. Students have prepared garden beds, cleaned out old plants, and planted new seeds (beans, carrots, corn, radishes, peas, lettuce and flowers) and red potatoes. Next up, cucumbers, squash, melons, sweet potatoes, and sunflowers.

  • Accelerated Reader Millionaire

    Congratulations to Emma Gong, 6th grader at Bell Academy. Emma recently became the first Millionaire for the 2020-2021 school year. She has read over one million words in sixteen books. Emma has really enjoyed reading the Harry Potter series and taking quizzes in Accelerated Reader. Keep up the great work!

  • Investing in Pre-K

    Pre-K can play a critical role in closing the achievement gap while raising achievement for all learners. Research supporting the positive impact of pre-K has fueled the proliferation of state-funded pre-K programs across the country. Mississippi First is proud to have written the Early Learning Collaborative Act, which established state-funded pre-K in Mississippi. Now, we lead the effort to expand the program. Individuals or corporations who make a contribution to support the local matching fund of an approved early learning collaborative may be eligible to receive a 1:1 state tax credit for the donated amount up to $1 million.   • Library

    Mrs. Pitts' first grade class enjoyed library this week. Mrs. Morgan, Librarian, read aloud The Dot by Peter Reynolds. After taking an AR quiz, students were able to show their creativity by creating their own masterpieces.

  • Spelling Bee

    Congratulations to our School Spelling Bee Winners. 6th grader, Pasario Self, earned the title of Champion with the winning word sheen. Arlin Brown, 4th grader, is the Runner-Up. These two students will proceed to the District Spelling Bee on Tuesday, February 2nd at the Cleveland Central High School Auditorium.

  • AR Champs

    Congratulations Bell Academy students! You’ve worked hard in AR this nine weeks, and it shows! We were awarded the championship belt for the most words read in the Cleveland School District. We received 1st place with 9.6 million words read, 2nd place for highest comprehension of 86%, and 3rd place for 4,841 words read. Let’s keep reading and testing to show continued success in AR.
