Mrs. Katie V. Johnston

Introduction:

HI! I have been teaching for over twenty years now - all in the Cleveland School District. I began my career at East Side High School where I taught Visual Art for sixteen years. I then moved to Cleveland Central High School when we consolidated. I have been teaching Visual Art here ever since - and in addition - Ceramics for the past two years. There are no words to express how much I love what I do! I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Secondary Education - a Masters In Secondary Education - and a Specialist in Administration and Supervision - all from Delta State University. I have three perfect children - Jackson, Joe and Alden. My hobbies include painting, ceramics, cooking, hunting, fishing, running and gardening.

Artist Bio:

My painting style is a realistic depiction of  wildlife in dynamic poses with an incorporation of brilliant color. My media of choice is oil with elements of collage, hidden imagery and symbolism included. My art is influenced by my own experiences outdoors. I strive to show the complexity of the relationship that exists between the hunter and the hunted, as well as within nature itself. I aim to capture a glimpse of life that can potentially become a life of its own through the eyes of the viewer.

Ceramics is a fairly new endeavor of mine. My ceramic pieces resemble my subject matter/artistic style of painting very closely. I am constantly trying new things - and constantly learning new things myself. This is a craft that I will be trying to perfect for the rest of my life. I married Ky Johnston in December of 2021. He is a professor of Ceramics at Delta State University. He and I have been collaborating on our pieces and we are always trying to push the other to be a stronger artists.
