Ms. Stephanie R. Thomas

Hello!  My name is Stephanie R. Thomas, and I am delighted to say this is my 17th year teaching high school social studies.  I grew up in Holly Ridge, Mississippi and graduated high school at Gentry High School in Indianola, Mississippi.  I received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from Mississippi Valley State University later I received my MAT Degree with a minor in History also from Mississippi Valley State University.  In 2009 I received a Master of Art  Degree in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Phoenix.

I began my teaching career in the Sunflower School District where I taught 1st grade.  I have taught social studies in four MS Delta high schools which include North Bolivar School District (9yrs.), Benoit School District (1yr.), Leland School District (3yrs), and I'm currently serving the scholars of the Cleveland School District (+4 yrs.) This year, I will be teaching two sections of United States Government and Economics.  Additionally, I am a new teacher mentor and advisor for the junior class.

Currently, I live in Cleveland and Indianola, Mississippi.

I enjoy sleeping, reading, watching documentaries, and shopping.  My favorite foods include: hamburgers, catfish, crab legs and chicken salad. Black and white seem to be my favorite colors along with royal blue.

For the 2017-2018 school year. I will improve my ability to engage students in their learning by researching and implementing strategies for engaging students in rigorous learning, and refining my use of student involved formative assessment practices.  These will be measured through pre and post assessments, student work samples, interim assessments, peer and principal observations and conferences along with self reflection.
